The City of Austin Cultural Arts Committee

The Creative Fund

Through its Q Rental Subsidy, the Creative Fund has helped bring innovative work to Austin's stages for years. In 2012, Breaking String was the proud recipient of Creative Fund support, which was invaluable in bringing off Vodka, Fucking and Television at Hyde Park Theatre.

The Rude Mechanicals

The Rude Mechanicals supported Breaking String's first New Russian Drama Festival, and the American premiere of Olga Mukhina's Flying, by entering into a Rude Fusion rental subsidy agreement with Breaking String. The Mechs, as they are locally known, are Austin's premier experimental theater troupe, and via their national and international tours, have come to be known the world over as one of the most vibrant theater companies working today.

Fusebox Festival

Fusebox Festival serves as a vital connector and source of artistic energy here in Austin, linking us with some of the nation's and the world's most important contemporary performing arts groups. Led by Artistic Director Ron Berry, Fusebox develops an exciting lineup of acts that continually celebrate and raise questions about live performance, and the world we live in.

The Center for International Theatre Development

For three years, Breaking String has enjoyed a fruitful partnership with Philip Arnoult's Center for International Theatre Development. In addition to Breaking String's intense interest in the translations of contemporary Russian plays yielded through C.I.T.D.'s New Voices / New Visions Initiative (directed John Freedman), the Center has brought some of Russia's leading theater professionals to Austin for Breaking String's annual New Russian Drama Festivals, including Maksym Kurochkin in 2010, and Maria Kroupnik in 2011. Visit the Center's website at citd.us.

The U.S. Embassy, Moscow

Breaking String Theater Artistic Director Graham Schmidt visited the Lyubimovka Playwriting Festival in 2012 with funding support from the United States Embassy in Moscow. The results of this visit will be announced at the New Russian Drama Festival, 2013.

Theater.Doc and the Lyubimovka New Play Festival

Moscow's Theater.Doc and the Lyubimovka New Play Festival issued official invitations to Breaking String Artistic Director Graham Schmidt, where he attended readings at one of Moscow's most exciting artistic events. During his trip, Graham also met with key figures in the Moscow arts community. The results of his journey will be announced at the Breaking String 2013 New Russian Drama festival, in Austin, Texas.

The University of Texas at Austin's Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies

CREEES has offered financial and promotional support, and has provided a forum for resident artists to connect with the University's scholars and students, in discussion of Russia's theater community and its role in Russian society.

Will Hollis Photography

Will Hollis Photography's on-going partnership with Breaking String Theater has yielded absolutely gorgeous photographs that we've happily and successfully used for promotional purposes, and in our grant-writing. Learn more about Will Hollis Photography, one of Austin's most popular wedding photographers, by visiting www.willhollisphotography.com.

BuyPlayTix.com

BuyPlayTix.com has offered online ticketing services to Breaking String for several years, and we couldn't be happier to take advantage of their extremely reasonable prices, online-marketing savvy, and extremely responsive staff.

Hyde Park Theatre

Hyde Park Theatre has played host to two Breaking String Theater productions: Ghosts in 2011 and Vodka, Fucking and Television in 2012. We are proud to work at Hyde Park Theatre, which, through the leadership of Artistic Director Ken Webster, has established a reputation as one of Austin's homes for dark and absurd comedies, with a loyal audience who've come to expect extremely smart, well acted and well directed theater.

The Actors' Equity Association

Actors' Equity Association has played a key role in the development of Breaking String. In 2007, three AEA actors, Babs George, Paul Wright and Dirk Van Allen, came together to produce Chekhov's The Seagull (directed and translated by Graham Schmidt), under the auspices of the AEA's Members Project Code. The success of this production created momentum for a return to Chekhov in 2009, when Bernadette Nason, Babs George and Dirk Van Allen produced The Cherry Orchard. This began an initial "Chekhov Cycle" of work in Breaking String's history, and in many ways laid a foundation for the company's incorporation in 2010.

#NewPlayTV, HowlRound and Vijay Mathew

#NewPlayTV, Vijay Mathew and HowlRound are key supporters in helping Breaking String Theater expand its reach beyond Austin audiences. Thanks to the efforts of Breaking String Theater Director of Technology Robert Matney, we've begun livestreaming performances, with audience members as far away as Moscow, Russia, having the opportunity to share our exploration of the Russian canon.

Pam and Phil Friday

Pam and Phil Friday have generously opened their home and their hearts to our resident artists, providing lodging for our Russian guests while they stay in Austin, and making them feel like one of the family. Thank you, Pam and Phil!
