Cinzano
Lyudmila Petrushevskaya's CINZANO portrays three Soviet men celebrating their theft of a case of Cinzano. In 1973, the Italian liquoer could fetch a fortune on the U.S.S.R.'s black market. Having uncorked one bottle, the men proceed to open up with one another, but rather than bringing them closer together, Petrushevskaya reveals just how psychologically ravaged life in this Soviet Union has left them, and just how distant from one another.
Breaking String Theater's debut production by one of 20th-century Russia's most important writers played at Coldtowne Theater in the spring of 2006, in an original translation by director Graham Schmidt, and starring Jeremy Lamb, Ace Manning and Michael Joplin.
